Drink, drink, drink. Water, that is! Our water intake is a huge contributor to the health of our skin. The skin is one of the largest organs in the body, and when it’s dehydrated, it doesn’t look it’s best. Drink at least 8 glasses of water a day for the next week to see your face glow.

Use a supercharged serum. You may not usually use a serum in your skincare routine, but they are great for treating pigmentation issues, redness, and wrinkles. We love the Glow Revealing Vitamin C Serum Concentrate. It contains vitamin C, which is a wonderful natural antioxidant that helps reduce skin inflammation. It also can prevent sun damage and the appearance of wrinkles. Do this once or twice in the week of your challenge.

Don’t wear makeup! For some, this will inspire shock and horror. But rock your natural skin confidently and watch the benefits both for your skin and your confidence levels. Makeup clogs up our pores, which can cause acne. It can also take away the natural oils your skin produces to keep it healthy. Take makeup out of the equation, and your face will naturally clear up in no time. Try not wearing makeup for 7 days and see how you feel.

Eat well. Eat plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables, at least 5+ a day. Realistically though, if each of your three meals are based around fruit and vegetables, you should be eating many more than five. This will help you achieve truly glowing, healthy skin.

Our top tips for glowing skin:

    • Try adding some veggies to your scrambled eggs at breakfast for an extra source of fiber and vitamins. Baby spinach or tomatoes are a perfect addition.
    • If you’re feeling a bit snacky – try eating a piece of fruit instead of reaching for a muesli bar.
    • Base your meals around the vegetables. For example, you’ve got some cauliflower lying around – what goes well with cauliflower ? Too often, we fall into the habit of basing our meals around the meat or sauce, and we forget to add enough vegetables. We don’t need to eat meat at every meal as vegetables can also be a great source of protein. Broccoli, for example, contains 2.8g of protein per 100g. It contains more protein per calorie.

Once or twice during the 7 days glowing skin challenge:

Woman with Facemask. Dot and Key Skin Care

Use a great face mask. Face masks are great for when our skin needs a bit of a boost. Clay masks detox and purify the skin, leaving it feeling and looking smooth and fresh. It gives us healthy skin and unclogs our pores. We’ve fallen head over heels for the green clay mask. You can never have too much vitamin C on your skin!

Exfoliate! Exfoliation is important for unblocking your pores of dead skin cells. It shouldn’t be done every day, though, because your skin can get irritated.

For a great natural at-home exfoliant, try mixing even amounts of coconut oil and sugar. Coconut oil has antibacterial properties which are great for truly cleaning your skin.

Use a retinoid product. Retinoids are a form of Vitamin A that is great for your skin. This will speed up the natural process of shedding skin, which in turn speeds up collagen production. Collagen is well known for helping us maintain skin elasticity.

Retinoids are best used a couple of times a week at first, as they can irritate the skin. You can buy lotions and gels over the counter containing retinol at your local pharmacy. Adding this to your routine is a great way to get glowing skin. You can use Dot & Key Retinol Night Cream and Retinol serum for best results.

Final Thoughts

We know it’ll be tough. Getting healthy skin isn’t easy, or everyone would have a clear complexion. But with a little bit of effort, time, and commitment, it can certainly be achieved.

When you’re feeling challenged, remember that consistency is key. Regularity in your skincare routine and small changes over time is what really makes a difference. Keep with it for the week to reap the benefits from the work you’ve put in.

Take a photo of your face on the first day of the challenge. There’s no doubt that you’ll want something to look back on at the end when your skin is clear and glowing. Get ready to have people stopping you in the street to ask for your advice on getting a natural face glow.
