While we stare at ourselves in the mirror and sulk about the sunburn, we hardly do anything about it and just wait for summer to be over. HOW DOES TAN OCCUR?
When the skin is exposed to UV radiation, it increases the production of melanin to deter the harmful effects of radiation. The increase in melanin is what causes the tan to occur, but it is not all good for our skin. Moreover, it only provides SPF of about 2 to 4, way less than the required 15.

It should have SPF of at least 15, but use sunscreen of greater SPF if you are going out for longer hours.
It should provide broad spectrum protection against UVA and UVB rays.
Water-resistant sunscreen holds up longer hours and using a transparent sunscreen does not form a white film on your face.
Pull out your wide-brimmed hats, umbrellas and sunglasses. Also wear long-sleeved clothes and pants to avoid skin exposure to sun.
