Vitamin C - The all-rounder ingredient

In our childhood days, we all have been acquainted with the good old kadha that has the superpower to cure everything, albeit tasting a bit crass. Well, vitamin C is the kadha to your skin and hair. It cures everything and guess what, you don’t have to taste it.

Benefits for skin:

  • Get well soon, skin!

It helps in healing burns and wounds. It speeds up the body’s natural healing process, therefore working hard to cure small cuts, acne scars, and blemishes.

  • I fear you not, sun!

There is no stopping when comes to summer swim sessions or beach vacations. But the sun can dull your skin’s vibe after prolonged exposure. Vitamin C protects the skin from sun damage and treats sunburn. It aids in sun protection by thickening the dermis layer of the skin, which ward off the sun’s harmful UVA and UVB rays. However, it should not be considered as an alternative to sunscreen as it guards  only your deeper skin levels, so you have to use a sunscreen with adequate SPF to guard your upper skin layers.

  • Hey! Collagen!

Ever heard of a magic ingredient that can transform you? Well, if you haven’t then let’s introduce you to collagen. Collagen strengthens the skin and maintains glowing vibrant skin. But age and sun damage cause our body to reduce collagen production. These shows in our face as wrinkles and aging. Vitamin C helps to boost the production of collagen, thus keeping our skin healthy and luminous.

  • Bye bye, darkness!

It is really irritating to hide those eye circles with layers of makeup or to chuck away all the sleeveless dresses. Vit C helps to brighten dark spots and remove skin discoloration. It also facilitates melanin production for even skin tone

  • Stay young!

Vitamin C blocks free radicals which cause DNA damage. It fights against the harmful UVA and UVB rays of the sun and it also boosts the production of collagen. These properties initiate it to prevent signs of anti-aging like developing wrinkles and fine lines. It heals the skin from within to nullify the effects of environmental aggressors along with hydrating the skin. Thus, it repairs and replenishes the skin to make it look healthier, brighter and younger.

Therefore, vitamin C is a skin healer and natural concealer. But it can be quite a task to figure out how to intake it. Apart from dietary options and supplements, an optimal application of vitamin C serum can benefit the skin similarly.

Benefits for hair:

  • Flip your hair

Vit C accelerates hair growth. The free radicals present in our body makes the hair weak, brittle and rough. With its antioxidant property, it curbs the formation of free radicals and minimizes its harmful effect on hair. It also produces collagen that aids to maintain strong hair and also helps our body to absorb iron which is a necessary mineral for hair growth.

  • Shoo away dandruff!

When the hair follicles get clogged due to dandruff and dry skin, it resists hair growth. Vit C with its antiviral properties fights bacteria on hair follicles and speeds up hair growth. It wards off dandruff and follicle debris from the scalp, thus helping in maintaining hair health. So, bring those black tops back and let loose those gorgeous locks.

Taking care of hair is easier said than done. Environment pollution, unfavorable weather, and even activities like swimming or heat exposure can seriously damage your hair. So, we should invest in vitamin C rich diet and organic products to protect our hair. There are various hair care products available in the market containing vitamin C including swim care spray that minimizes the harmful effect of chlorine in our hair.

Apart from that, some foods rich in vit C are:

Peppers

Kale

Strawberries

Citrus fruits like guava, mango, kiwi, and pineapple.

So, revive and replenish your skin by welcoming vitamin C as a new habit in your daily routine.
