Your eyes do all the talking; they are the window to your soul. But maybe those late night deadlines, binge-watching marathons, too many cocktails or just bad genes are not helping you keep your eye game strong.
Some lifestyle problems that affect us are:
-
No sleep, no rest
Hey, there night owl, what's keeping you up till two am? Is it late night movie marathons or never ending work obligations? Whatever be your reason, it is not helping your under-eye to be free of dark circles. Sleep deprivation causes the blood vessels under the thin skin of the eyes to dilate, creating a dark tint. Tiredness and fatigue leads to swelling and puffing of under-eye skin. Therefore, take breaks from hectic routine frequently and try to catch your zzz’s to avoid those sunken bluish-green under-eyes.
-
Techy, techy every time
Too much screen time never bought any good news. Staring for too long at smartphones, television screens and desktops causes strain in your eyes. This strain can cause blood vessels around your eyes to enlarge. As a result, the skin surrounding your eyes can darken. So, before unlocking your screens this weekend, go read that book you have been meaning to finish since forever.
-
Too much salt
Salt is a mineral rich in sodium which causes your body to hold onto fluid, and that includes in the tissues surrounding your eyes as well. As a result of this under eye area swells. If you are eating too many chips, packaged products, frozen meals, etc, then you may want to stop that.
-
Genetics & allergies
Sometimes you are just unlucky enough to be born with dark circles or those allergies may never leave you. Genetic traits can cause one to inherit dark circles, while allergic reactions induces body to release histamines which dilate blood vessels. Allergies can lead to itchiness, redness and puffy eyes, but there are cures to remedy them. In case of bad genes, it may seem like fighting a losing battle, but overtime care can work wonders.
-
Dehydrated much?
When your body is not receiving the proper amount of water, the skin beneath your eyes begins to look dull and your eyes look sunken. Consuming too much alcohol or smoking regularly also shows signs of dehydration around the eyes. So, it becomes crucial to drink water frequently as it also helps to flush out salts and reduce eye-strain. You must make sure that your skin is always hydrated in summers and let your under eyes appear stunning.
-
Sun, no fun
Overexposure to the sun can cause your body to produce an excess of melanin, the pigment that provides your skin with color. Too much sun — particularly for your eyes — can cause pigmentation in the surrounding skin to darken.
-
Stress & crying
Stress spirals down your body health, skin and eye appearance. When you are stressed, the blood is directed to the main organs, leaving the face drained and pasty. Stress can also cause the fragile capillaries around the eyes to break or leak blood. The blood spreads out under the skin and becomes oxidized forming a dark purple hue.

Ageing upcoming
Have you heard of the term crows feet? It makes your skin look wrinkled and crumpled like that of a many-toed crow. They make your eyes look hollow and dilated, as if you are squinting too hard to see. But, as you age, so does your skin and there are many reasons for crow’s feet, mainly because of loss of collagen and effects of UV rays of the sun.
